Affiliate marketing is definitely one of the best ways for a blogger or a website owner to earn money online. You see, online merchants are always on the lookout for people who either own a blog or website that already have a massive following.
This marketing model is basically where the blog or website owner promote their affiliate merchants’ products or services, either through making blog posts or video content, to name a few.
The way you’re paid is through commissions and exactly how you are paid will depend on the structure that your partner merchant will follow.
For the most part, you’re probably going to be paid a small percent commission based on whether or not the person who clicked on the affiliate link purchased a product.
Common Misconception About Affiliate Commissions
One of the most common misconceptions regarding affiliate commissions is that the marketer will be paid commissions based on the sale of the product. So, when the product is sold at $100, the marketer instantly assumes that they get a flat rate.
Well, that commissions that you will get will actually depend on the company that you promote on your website or blog. They will be the ones to set the payment conditions and not directly from the money that is paid by the customer to buy certain things.
How Does Affiliate Marketing Work?
For the purpose of this article, I will only talk about affiliate marketing on the perspective of the marketer. With that being said, the publisher or the marketer will basically recommend or promote a product or service to their followers or to the people that they know. They can either do this by creating blog posts, informative articles, videos, podcasts, and other content types.
Each marketer will be given a special URL known as an affiliate link which has a tracking code embedded on it. Whenever one of their audience members click on the link, they will usually be directed to the marketer’s partner merchant website.
Whenever that user happens to buy something, anything, from the website, the marketer will be given a percentage of every sale. So, if the item is sold at $100 and the percent commission that the market gets is a flat 10%, then they will receive $10 for that item only.
How to Earn Money as an Affiliate Marketer?
1. Create Articles that Provide Value to Your Readers
I know that it is your job to promote your affiliate merchant’s products, but do not go out there just to create articles that are made by a salesperson.
Instead, you want to create content that will provide value to your readers and promote products and services at the same time.
For example, you can create a how-to guide that makes use of a certain product, which your partner merchant happens to provide. Do not come off as a salesperson, but instead be someone that genuinely wants to help people.
2. Establish Your Credibility
As an affiliate marketer, it is important that you build your credibility so that you will become trustworthy in the eyes of your audience.
Always look at the products that you promote first and foremost. Anything that is shady or of poor quality should never be marketed. Otherwise, you will only be deemed as someone who is only there for the money.
